Environmental Services
ESA Phases 1 - 2 (CSA – Z768-01)
Phase 1 ESA is the collection and review of background information. The process involves a site visit, interviews and reporting. Phase one basically identifies areas of contamination and or potential contamination and sources of contamination to the property or land.
Phase 11 ESA is undertaken to determine the nature and extent of any identified potential contamination of soil, groundwater or sediment at a property in a Phase 1 ESA report.
• Conduct a Phase 1 ESA
• Conduct a Detailed Site Assessment (DSA) for your projects
• Conduct a Phase 11 ESA
• Manage Phase 111 ESA on your behalf
Environmental Construction Operations Plan (ECO- Plan)
In 2008, Alberta Transportation, and The Cities of Calgary and Edmonton developed a common Environmental Construction Operations (ECO) Plan Framework. The objectives of the ECO Plan are to prevent and/or minimize environmental impact(s) and to enhance the environmental value of the air, land and water affected by projects.
• Create and Manage ECO- Plan
• Prepare a report at the end of the project
Environmental Management Planning (EMP)
An EMP is a document created by companies to provide a framework for dealing with the pollution risks associated with their site and activities. In many cases, it simply formalizes practices already undertaken on site. Once a company has an EMP, it has an advantage as far as knowing the legal requirements and managing pollution risks according to best practice. EMP€™s can also help companies increase efficiencies and reduce costs.
• Review your regulatory needs
• Prepare an EMP for your company
• Prepare your company for Government Audits
Conservation, Reclamation and Decommission planning and Management.
The conservation and reclamation (C - R) plan outlines the soil handling, soil storage and site preparation requirements for the site development stage of the Project and describes how the land will be reclaimed after decommissioning. Specific land use goals that exist for the area during decommissioning will affect how the Project site is reclaimed. This is an Alberta Environment requirement.
• Prepare a plan for your reclamation and decommissioning needs
• Manage your reclamation projects
• Very reports / data on your behalf
Biological Resource Assessment
Biological Resource Assessments are conducted as part of a federally or provincially legislated process, or to satisfy requirements for project approval.
The intent and goal of any Biophysical Resource Assessment is to integrate environmental protection and economic decision making at the earliest stages of project planning. This involves the identification of Valued Ecosystem Components (VEC€™s) that have the potential to be impacted by the proposed project, and the development of mitigation or compensation to reduce the predicted adverse impacts.
21st Century Environmental Consultant Inc. has experience with the following types of Biological Resource Assessments: • Federal Environmental Screening Assessments
• Provincial Environmental Impact Assessments
• Project-specific Biological Resource Assessments
Fisheries - Aquatic Resources
21st Century Environmental Consultant personnel have a working knowledge of provincial and federal legislation regulating activities conducted in and around a water body, such as the installation of bridges, culverts, outfall structures, and pipelines. CECINC has a team of professional biologists and associates with the qualifications and experience to act as a Qualified Aquatic Environment Specialist (QAES), and to provide specifications and recommendations to mitigate any loss of aquatic habitats that may result from in-stream works.
To ensure that all in-stream works conducted by our clients are in compliance with provincial and federal regulations for "no net loss", we offer the following services: Watercourse and Fish - Fish Habitat Assessments
Watercourse assessments are required prior to the commencement of any construction work that has the potential to adversely affect a watercourse or water body. Fish and Fish Habitat Assessments are done in conjunction with watercourse assessments, in order to evaluate and document the value of spawning, rearing, and overwintering fish habitat that exists prior to the commencement of any in-stream works.
Fish Community Sampling
Fish community sampling establishes whether fish are present within a watercourse prior to the commencement of construction works, so that planning and construction can proceed to ensure that fish and fish habitat values are protected.
Fish Salvage Operations
In the event that a water body is fish-bearing, 21st Century Environmental 's professional biologists are available for on-site construction monitoring to ensure that the water body is not adversely affected by construction activities.
Permit Application - Aquisition
21st Century Environmental personnel are available to make application on behalf of the client to the appropriate provincial and federal agencies to acquire the necessary permits.
We look forward to a fruitful working relationship in the future.
