The Armet Armored Vehicles Group has been armoring vehicles for over thirty years and has five manufacturing facilities which are located in Bradford, Ontario, Canada, Danville Virginia USA, Marsa in the Republic of Malta, Melbourne Australia and Tangiers Morocco.
Armet serves a worldwide client base, and we can claim to be a respected name in the armoring industry. Armet has achieved its impeccable worldwide standing as a result of customer referrals and repeated business to Heads of State, Diplomats, Government agencies, Multinational corporations, Police Forces and discriminating individuals worldwide.
Armet has had the privilege of supplying many Governments, including various departments of the United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, members of the European Union and even some of the Russian Government€™s Embassy cars around the World are armored by Armet.
Before Armet commences the armoring of a clients vehicle, the following testing parameters are used for each and every vehicle; a test sample of opaque armor, properly identified with the client€™s vehicle identification number is submitted to an independent Government approved ballistic test facility to confirm the integrity of the armoring material. The corresponding test certificate is provided to the client.
The following armored vehicles lead Armet€™s product line for tactical and internal security operations and they are described as the GURKHA LAPV, GURKHA TACTICAL, SNIPER SOG and BALKAN ARV. All four units have exceptional side protective armor that is formed by the use of Armet€™s HOLLOWDECK© frameless cavity formed double monocoque armored body.
The background to the development of our Tactical vehicle is that in 1999, Armet commenced the production of the BALKAN ARV, which has comfortable seating for a fully equipped response team of ten men and is based on the Ford F550 chassis.
In 2005, using the same Ford F550 chassis, Armet developed the GURKHA LAPV, with its traditional SUV configuration of four side doors and a single or double rear rapid deployment door and carries a total crew complement of eight. Similarly to the other two Tactical vehicles, the GURKHA LAPV is armored to exceed the European B7 armor level with protection to defeat the 12.7x99mm (.50 cal) M2 round.
Floor protection in our Tactical vehicles greatly exceeds the NATO Stanag 4569 level 1 especially when the exterior belly blast plate is installed. The Canadian Government deploys the GURKHA in the role of protecting strategic materials in Canada, as do the US Government in the United States and until recently did the US military in Iraq. The GURKHA TACTICAL is a recent development specifically designed for Police Forces in North America.
Production of the SNIPER SOG, a variant of the GURKHA LAPV, was commenced in January 2009. The SNIPER SOG is most suitable for the convenient deployment of heavy weapons or as a Police tactical response unit. The unit can also be equipped with extended range fuel tanks of about 120 US gallons.
Advice and consensus received from end user operatives indicates that the operational use of the four variants is that the BALKAN ARV is suitable for the Police or Military in internal security role, while the GURKHA LAPV has a significant military role with its turret and cross-country wheels and the SNIPER SOG has a multitude of roles no matter what the role it€™s used in. The GURKHA TACTICAL is offered at the CEN EURO NORM B6 level which is upgradable by the client should the need arise.
The BALKAN APV has been sold to many countries, including Australia, Vietnam, USA, Canada and Saudi Arabia. One of the key reasons for the success of the three units is due to the commercial availability of spare parts Worldwide.
All four Tactical units are well protected against blast and the design was focused on creating the maximum distance and protection between the seat of a mine explosion and the crew cabin. To reduce shock transmitted to the crew, the front fenders and the hood are attached to the chassis with the front wheel stations located well forward of the cabin.
Available on the SNIPER SOG and the GURKHA MPV is a €œV€? shaped armoring cell that is formed with a layered sandwich structure of THIKA MINEPLATE©. The structure collapses on the detonation of a mine under the belly, thus absorbing a high percentage of the blast€™s energy. Both units have available as a further options a blast protective device that allows for the jettison of structural components.
The SNIPER SOG, GURKHA LAPV-MPV, GURKHA TACTICAL and BALKAN ARV are available with left or Right Hand Drive controls.
