Bubble Technology Industries (BTI) is a dynamic company with world-renowned expertise in the field of radiation detection. With a track record of over fifteen years of innovation, BTI combines scientific, engineering, and manufacturing expertise to yield advanced solutions to complex radiation-related problems. BTI provides commercial products, radiation services, consulting, and contract research and development to a wide range of prominent clients, including military organizations, space agencies, regulatory and international standards groups, research institutions, and national security agencies. Cost-effective solutions, personalized customer interactions, and an uncompromising standard of integrity have enabled BTI to become a trusted resource for clients around the world.
DETECTORS AND DOSIMETERS
BTI€™s unique neutron bubble detectors have been used by nuclear facilities, hospitals, military groups, and space agencies for neutron measurements and personal neutron dosimetry for over fifteen years. A bubble detector consists of a pocket-sized tube filled with a transparent gel. The gel contains tiny droplets of superheated liquid. When neutron radiation strikes a droplet, the liquid vaporizes and forms a visible gas bubble that is trapped inside the gel, providing an immediate, real-time measurement of radiation dose. Bubble detectors have zero gamma sensitivity, require no power, are reusable, and have an isotropic angular response. A wide range of detector types and accessories are available.
Recently, BTI has developed an ultra-sensitive neutron detector for the detection of illicit radiological or nuclear materials commonly used in nuclear weapons and dirty bombs. The DefenderTM neutron detector is the most sensitive passive neutron detector in the world. Its real-time response to neutrons, zero sensitivity to gammas (for elimination of false alarms), and extremely low cost make the Defender the ideal detector for counter-terrorism applications such as cargo-container monitoring, border security, baggage screening, mail screening, and continuous radiological surveillance.
RADIATION SPECTROMETERS
BTI developed the first handheld radiation spectral dosimeter, known as the MicrospecTM, and continues to be the technology leader in advanced radiation spectrometers. In addition to providing handheld spectral dosimeters for gamma and X-ray radiation, BTI is the only company in the world with spectrometric neutron and beta probes. All MicrospecTM spectrometers provide radiation dose, dose rate, and isotope identification. Originally developed for the military, the new rugged Mobile MicrospecTM, available with GPS and wireless data communication, is ideal for use in ground vehicles or helicopters for radiation surveys and mapping over large areas.
ROSPECTM is a unique rotating neutron spectrometer that is accepted by NATO scientists as the standard for neutron spectrometry. Designed originally for the spectral measurement of degraded fission neutrons, the device now covers thermal and epi-thermal neutrons and is used as a standard at preeminent research institutes, standards laboratories, nuclear facilities, and defense laboratories around the world.
EXPLOSIVES DETECTION
With its expertise in nuclear interrogation techniques, BTI provides customized, reliable solutions for explosives detection applications. BTI is the first and only company in the world to successfully build landmine detection equipment based on thermal neutron analysis (TNA). Systems equipped with TNA sensors have been deployed by the Canadian military.
RADIATION SERVICES
Equipped with Canada€™s only classified, licensed commercial radiochemical laboratory, BTI provides a wide range of radioanalytical services. BTI€™s skilled services personnel perform source leak testing, survey meter calibrations, radiological sample analysis, and radon monitoring at cost-effective rates. Unique sample processing techniques and expert consultations are available. On-site consultations for dosimetry applications, environmental monitoring, and radiation surveys are also offered.
CONTRACT R - D
BTI is recognized internationally for its unique expertise in radiation-related research and development. Over one third of the company€™s personnel are dedicated to performing research and development work for clients around the world. Since 1989, BTI technology has flown on ten space missions through NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and the Russian Space Agency. The company has designed and built custom equipment for organizations such as NATO forces, U.S. DOE and DOD labs, and national security agencies. BTI€™s experts also advise and consult for major regulatory and standards agencies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Organization for Standards (ISO), National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), and the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). For complex radiation-related projects, BTI can provide the combination of expertise to carry the project through concept, design, manufacture, testing, and in-service support.
