CARTEL is a multidisciplinary university research centre in
remote sensing and geomatics. The centre is one of Canada's most
important research centres in remote sensing and geomatics and
regroups 10 member scientists and 20 associate scientists. CARTEL
deals in fundamental and applied research and is involved in
extensive international technology transfer programmes.

Services:
Remote sensing, data calibration - radiometric correction, satellite image processing - gis, multi source data
Technology:
CARTEL operates a digital image processing and geographical
information system laboratory and a spectroradiometry laboratory.
The digital image processing and geomatics laboratories provide
important computer facilities configured for digital image
processing and geographic information systems (GIS). The software
used are PCI EASI/PACE, ERDAS, DIPIX-ARIES for image processing,
and PAMAP, TYDAC-SPANS, ARC-INFO, GRASS, FORMATEK, ATLAS-GIS,
MAPINFO and IDRISI for GIS applications. The spectroradiometry
laboratory manages and maintains a wide range of measuring
instruments for the more fundamental aspects of research in
remote sensing: spectroradiometers, multiband radiometers, solar
radiometers, thermal radiometers, thermal camera, meteorological
station, micro-climatology instruments and global positionning
systems. The laboratory also provides equipment and
installations for the spectroradiometric calibration of
instruments. In addition, the laboratory has electronic
equipment for the development of data acquisition and automatic
recording systems, as well as for the development of measuring
instruments. Finally, a mobile laboratory can be installed on
experimental sites and a truck equipped with a telescopic ladder
are also available.
