Corrpro Canada, Inc. is a leading consulting engineering company providing total corrosion services to the oil and gas, petrochemical, municipal and marine markets.
Corrpro NDT Division Overview
Corrpro Canada Inc. (Corrpro) is Canada€™s largest corrosion engineering, cathodic protection and corrosion mitigation business. Corrpro Canada is part of Corrpro Companies Inc.; one of the world leaders in corrosion control services.
Corrpro engineering and technical staff represent more than 1,000 years of experience in the field of corrosion investigation, nondestructive examination and quality control. With backgrounds in electrical, civil, metallurgical and chemical engineering, most are registered professional engineers or with certification from the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE International - Several of our personnel have been President of NACE International.) We have solved corrosion problems associated with underground corrosion, coating defects, stray currents, and all types of failures on metallic structures.
The Corrpro Nondestructive Testing (Corrpro NDT) Division provides comprehensive nondestructive examination services with offices in Edmonton, Alberta, Fort Nelson, B.C. and Fort St. John B.C. For more than 40 years, Corrpro and its subsidiaries have been providing professional nondestructive examination, engineering and quality control services to major oil companies, government agencies, municipal water, sewer and gas utilities, private industry, universities, and public transportation agencies.
Corrpro NDT is certified to ISO 9001:2000 and is a long standing member of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors. (C.A.O.D.C ) specializing in drilling and service rig masts, overhead equipment, drill through equipment, blow out preventers, pipeline inspection, valve and pressure vessel inspection, as well as corrosion surveys of tanks, pressure equipment and related components. Registered to CSA Standard B620-03 we inspect highway and portable Tanks.
Corrpro NDT is unique in our balance of expertise to detect the factors that cause external and internal flaws of all weldments, castings, forgings and machine parts. Overhead cranes, oil rigs, pipeline girth welds, plant turnarounds, new pipeline and facilities construction and maintenance, refineries, gas plants and pulp mills are also part of the Corrpro NDT inspection, corrosion detection and quality control suite of services.
Our highly trained C.G.S.B and SNT-TC-1A certified technicians utilize the latest in equipment and technology. We are dedicated to the continuing education of our technicians to ensure state-of-the-art expertise.
The Corrpro NDT Division is approximately 25 people strong, with 5 field crews and highly skilled inspectors. A listing of our personnel certifications is included in Attachment 1 to this SOQ.
Nondestructive Examination and Services
INTRODUCTION
Corrpro NDT offers nondestructive examination services to clients for quality control programs, product evaluation, corrosion audits, and for preventative and predictive maintenance programs of other material investigations. Government regulations, increased competition, and liability concerns are pressuring companies to place more emphasis on quality assurance and quality control, in order to maximize equipment reliability and durability. Our focus is on supporting our clients€™ efforts in these areas by offering a full range of NDT services to attain these quality goals.
Following is a list of the major goods and services provided by Corrpro: 1. Phased Array Ultrasonic - PAUT
Corrpro NDE provides state of the art inspection services using Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT) for fabrication and maintenance QC programs. PAUT produces accurate, detailed cross-sectional pictures of internal structures at fast inspection speeds by using multiple ultrasonic elements and electronic time delays to create beams that can be steered, scanned, swept, and focused electronically for fast inspection, full data storage, and multiple angle inspections. PAUT provides high speed electronic scanning without moving parts, improved inspection capabilities through software control of beam characteristics, and inspection with multiple angles with a single electronically controlled probe. PAUT provides precise measurement with the most reliable results for weld inspection and is now a widely accepted alternative to radiography.
Technology advancements have positioned PAUT to become the dominant industry inspection technique for this application, and will virtually replace radiography in the next few years. Corrpro NDE combines this technology with TOFD (#2 below) for a truly superior inspection process that represents a paradigm shift in this industry. Corrpro NDE is leading Industry for the PAUT/TOFD program.

2. Time of Flight Diffraction - TOFD
Corrpro NDE uses Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) for the ultrasonic examination of welds after final heat treatment and/or hydraulic testing to verify the absence of cracks not detectable by radiography and to prove conformity with prior ultrasonic manual examination carried out during construction.
In addition to higher sensitivity, the TOFD technique allows the full examination data to be recorded on hard disk, displaying all discontinuities in C/scan images. This enables €œoff line€? evaluation of indications by computer using dedicated software. Very accurate sizing of detects can be achieved and printed for documentation.
Another advantage and current application of TOFD is its use in monitoring welds during the service life of components. Stored data acquired from initial examinations, made during the final stage of construction, can be compared with new data obtained from in-service inspection. This allows the stability of existing indications to be determined with high accuracy and reliability.
TOFD is accepted as an ultrasonic technique for examination of heavy wall thickness welds on Pressure Vessels. TOFD is a computerized ultrasonic system able to scan, store and evaluate indications in terms of height (through thickness weld), length, position, with a degree of accuracy never achieved with other ultrasonic techniques. A record of examined sections is available in unprocessed form. The ASME Code, with Code Case no. 2235 has accepted this method in lieu of radiography examination for thicknesses over 4€? (1). The technique has been applied on longitudinal, circumferential and nozzle-shell/bead welds. Scanning Plan Data and its validation are reported with used test blocks. Cladded layers in TOFD images are presented..
Corrpro NDE combines PAUT and TOFD for extremely accurate inspections. The combined techniques result in state of the art, solid analysis of welds.
3. Ultrasonic Inspection – (UT)
Ultrasonic Inspection is a nondestructive method in which beams of high-frequency sound waves are introduced into materials for the detection of subsurface flaws in the material. The sound waves travel through the material with some attendant loss of energy (attenuation) and are reflected at interfaces (cracks or flaws). The reflected beam is displayed and then analyzed to define the presence and location of flaws or discontinuities. Applications include inspections for voids, cracks, and laminations, inspections of welds and thickness measurements.
Corrpro NDT uses A Scan, B Scan, C Scan and the associated software for these techniques for our UT surveys.
4. Magnetic Particle Testing – (MT)
Corrpro NDT uses magnetic particle inspection (MPI) for the detection of surface and near-surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials. A magnetic field is applied to the specimen, either locally or overall, using a perma
