Success Stories: Fidus teams up to design military aircraft high-speed signal processor
OTTAWA, Canada, January 29, 2007€” Fidus has completed a 12-month contract with Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), designing aspects of a high-speed signal processing board for the CP-140 Aurora aircraft.
€œIt€™s a complex and dynamic project. We needed a high-performance product in a compact, lightweight and resilient package, that withstands a harsh environment and high vibrations,€? says Jean-Francois Rivest, DRDC€™s Head of Radar Electronic Warfare. €œFidus accommodated all our design changes, completing the project on-budget and on-schedule.€?
This effort marks the latest in a series of projects Fidus has delivered for DRDC. Fidus developed the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and the Printed Circuit Board design for a VersaMobile Eurocard (VME card). Fidus also provided mechanical design for the board package.
€œThis is an important win for Fidus,€? says Michael Wakim, Fidus€™ President. €œIt has broadened our experience in the aerospace-defence market, and our designers really enjoy solving these difficult technological challenges. We are excited about collaborating with DRDC.€? Fidus and DRDC are discussing follow-on projects.
Fidus wins major electronic design partnership with Telephonics
OTTAWA, Canada, November 27, 2006 €” Fidus Systems has landed an 18-month contract with New York€™s Telephonics Corporation. Fidus is designing an automatic identification system (AIS) transceiver. When integrated into airborne radar systems, the device will identify and track maritime vessel traffic outfitted with an AIS transponder. The product will also have applications for ship-borne and shore-based AIS systems.
€œOur partnership with Fidus enables Telephonics to invest in new technology markets and provide enhanced solutions to our customers,€? says Kevin McSweeney, President of Telephonics Radar Systems Division. €œWe selected Fidus based on their talented workforce and commitment to meet project measurements.€?
The initial project represents a significant win for Fidus. The two companies anticipate a long-term partnership, and are discussing follow-on projects.
€œIt€™s a new sector of the defence market for us to play in,€? says Fidus President, Michael Wakim. €œOur designers love this project, because of its leading-edge technology, and wide-spread applications.€?
Fidus signs 300th project; designs components for MOSAID test equipment: OTTAWA, Canada, November 9, 2005 €” Fidus Systems has completed an 18-month project designing key sub-systems for MOSAID Technologies Incorporated€™s (TSX:MSD) new MS5205 Semiconductor Memory Test System.
MOSAID and Fidus recently agreed to a follow-on project, which will be Fidus€™ 300th electronic design. €œIn four years we€™ve completed 300 projects for 75 customers,€? says Fidus President, Michael Wakim. €œWe are very pleased to have contributed to MOSAID€™s latest product and we look forward to a continuing relationship.€?
Ian Hughes, Director of Engineering for MOSAID€™s Systems Division said he was pleased to work with Fidus on this project. €œFidus understood our requirements and delivered excellent results,€? says Hughes. €œSuccess required that Fidus engineers work hand-in-hand with our system architects and design engineers to ensure that the Fidus-implemented sub-systems function as components of a very complex hardware and software system.€?
Fidus€™ contribution to the MOSAID project included complex analog and digital printed circuit board designs, with demanding performance and high-speed signal integrity targets. The effort included circuit design, board design and FPGA design tasks, and used sophisticated circuit simulation and computer-aided design tools and techniques.
Fidus - Spirent Make Waves
OTTAWA, Canada, May 30, 2005 €” Fidus Systems has completed design of a new-generation product for UK-based Spirent Communications. It allows makers of DSL telecom equipment to test their emerging products to high-performance standards.
Telecom makers are now better-equipped to deliver clear, high-speed Internet signals under adverse conditions.
€œThe new arbitrary wave-form generator we designed for Spirent is entering production,€? says Don Moncion, Fidus€™ Vice President of Business Management. €œIt allows telecom developers and independent test labs to put new products through much more rigorous laboratory testing than ever before.€?
€œThis product follows another successful joint project with the designers at Fidus,€? says John Bobyn, Spirent€™s Director of Engineering. €œThe first one sold internationally into significant test laboratories in Japan and other markets.€?
€œWe keep returning to Fidus because of the breadth of their development skills. They€™ve delivered an excellent design on time and on budget,€? says Bobyn.
Fidus wraps up high-speed design with Quake Technologies
OTTAWA, Canada, April 11, 2005 €” Fidus Systems is completing an eight-month design project with Quake Technologies. Fidus has helped develop evaluation and demonstration boards for Quake€™s new-generation, 10-Gigabit-per-second integrated circuits (ICs).
€œIn addition to their design assistance, Fidus has streamlined the build-phase for our new 10-Gig evaluation board,€? says Tim Dillon, Program Manager for Quake Technologies. €œThey have helped us keep our costs and time commitment to a minimum.€?
The companies are collaborating in the rapidly-growing, 10-Gig Ethernet market. One board is a complete 2-port, 10G Ethernet XFP reference design. Work is expected to wrap up by April 15. The companies are discussing follow-on projects.
