As part of its charter, Memorial has specific objectives : to
develop an institute of higher learning deserving of respect for
the quality of its academic standards and its research; to make
the university accessible to all Newfoundlanders; and to
establish new programs to meet the expanding needs of the
province.
Seabright Corporation Limited
Established by Memorial in 1987 Seabright Corporation Ltd. Is a
not-for-profit organization which identifies and commercializes
promising technologies arising from research at the University.
In addition to its central role of transferring technology to the
private sector, Seabright assists the province's small and medium
size businesses to access the vast physical and human resources
of the University. Seabright is privately owned by Memorial and
governed by a board of directors representing industry, academia,
and government. Seabright focuses on new technologies,
processes, and services an products which enhance, improve and /
or diversify an existing industry's capability, or create a new
industry which does not compete with the existing private sector.
Seabright's Goals
1- Review research activities at Memorial to identify and
commercialize those new applications of research with
potential for significant economic benefit to the University
of Newfoundland and Labrador. Examples could include royalty
revenue generation, significant market penetration, ``core ro
platform`` technologies which can be transferred to existing
Newfoundland enterprises pursuing national or international
markets and / or which can be used as the vehicle for the
creation of such enterprises.

resources.
