I.S.E. Research (ISER) is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Submarine Engineering Ltd (ISE). ISER is engaged in the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and other subsea equipment for commercial, military and scientific applications. The company is located in a suburb of Vancouver in Canada's most western province of British Columbia.
ISER has developed 28 AUVs. Our flagship project of the 1990s was the Theseus AUV, which holds distance and endurance records for under ice operations. A semi-submersible vehicle, Dolphin, has been extensively developed for hydrographic and mine countermeasures survey. Dorado, the successor vehicle to Dolphin, has been successfully used for mine countermeasure operations with the Canadian Department of National Defence. A vital part of the Dorado mine hunting system is the Aurora towfish which, together with Dorado, has conducted many successful operations since 2001.
In 2002, we started development of a smaller AUV known as Explorer, based on the successful designs of our earlier vehicles. An Explorer AUV that we sold to Natural Resources Canada recently conducted 12 days of continuous operation under the ice. It covered over 1000 kilometres of survey and recorded what is possibly the deepest dive by an AUV in Arctic waters, reaching up to 3163 metres.
The company has won numerous awards for innovation. These include honours from the Marine Technology Society, the Oceanic Society of IEEE, the Manning Award and the Engineering Institute of Canada. In 2009, we were inducted into the Offshore Energy Center Hall of Fame and also named as one of Canada€™s top 40 defence companies.
