Success Stories: A number of school districts have adapted the PEMA program for use in grades K-7, and 8-12, depending on what teachers are teaching. They have discovered that individual lessons can be used with other classroom resources. Several school districts are buying a program per school, as the PEMA works as a classroom resource for 10 different disciplines (English, social studies, math, science, physical education, visual arts, music, dance, drama, and personal planning).
Testimonial: Brenda Lightburn, Assistant Superintendent, and Colleen Hannah, School District Principal, B.C., Canada.
School District 75 (Mission) and Siwal Si'wes has been involved with Inkster House... for the last 2 years. The teachers and support staff have particularly benefited from...use of the PEMA program throughout the Elementary grades. They have found it to be user friendly and captivating for students and as educators. We...recommend...the PEMA program as a great resource to incorporate Aboriginal content into the classroom.
Dr Hans Enter, University of Greifswald, Germany.
The Greifswald Project was a combination of a senior seminar on Métis culture/literature...and a practical teaching unit in local schools.... We wanted to use the PEMA program in its English language form...and use the materials as authentically as possible. With great energy and enthusiasm we accomplished all our goals. As a result of our experiences we strongly recommend including the topic in the English curriculum in Germany.
