For over 60 years, the Institut maritime du Québec has been training competent manpower in naval architecture, marine engineering, navigation, professional diving, transportation logistic, fire fighting and marine emergency.
The Continuing Education Service at the Institut maritime du Québec contributes to the reputation of its institution throughout Quebec, Canada and abroad.
This Service offers training and professional development to officers of the merchant marine and uncertified seafarers. All the trainings respond to the STCW convention of the I.M.O.
The Continuing Education Service operates the Marine Emergency Duties Training Centre in Lévis, near Quebec City and the Professional Diving Centre in Rimouski.
This Service also offers a training programme covering all aspects of hydrography. The content of these courses meets the standards of the International Hydrographic Organization. The quality of these courses is recognized by the Canadian Hydrographic Service.
To carry out the Research and Development part of its mission, the Institut counts upon Maritime Innovation, a centre of applied research in maritime technology. Established in the head office of the Institut maritime in Rimouski, Maritime Innovation was born from the desire of the Institut maritime du Québec to offer technological solutions to challenges met by professionals of the maritime industry in Canada or abroad. Maritime Innovation is acknowledge by Québec Ministry of Education as a collegial centre of technology and is also a member of the Canadian Technology Network.
Maritime Innovation's purpose is to identify and/or develop solutions to the technological problems encountered by the maritime industry all the while enhancing the competitiveness of businesses in the sector, promoting excellence and fostering growth of the maritime sector through technological innovation. Maritime Innovation offers four distinct and yet complementary services : research and development, technology watch, technical assistance and documentation centre.
Maritime Innovation offers expertise in navigation, logistics, professional diving, naval architecture, marine engineering and nautical recreational equipment.
