Metal Improvement Company LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Curtiss-Wright Corporation, is a world leader of controlled shot peening (CSP) and peenforming for more than 60 years.
Our Canadian operation, MICAN, provides a full capability for leading aircraft manufactures and equipment O.E.M's. We have the capability to process parts with diverse materials, shapes and sizes, up to 82 ft. long, under rigidly controlled conditions.
MICAN, an 85,000 sq. ft. facility, specializes in metal treatment services to enhance performance that include the following: - Controlled shot peening; typically to AMS 13165, AMS 2430L, AMS 2432 and P11TF8
- Wing skin forming; typically to BAC 5730-1
- Lance Peening (internal)
- Glass Bead Peening
- Texturing to a Specified Finish
- Decontamination with nitric acid, phosphoric acid
- High performance and specialized coatings
- Finishing processes including NDT, anodise, prime and paint
- "One-stop" process integration for OEM/Tier1 aerospace enterprises Canada-wide
To assist our customers in finding "one-stop" processing solutions, we act as an integrator with suppliers that specialize in NDT, anodizing, painting, plating and other process.
With the addition of laser peening, heat treating, coatings and related services, there are now more than sixty (60) MIC facilities operating in North America, Europe and China.

Special/Unique Processes
Laser peening to increase the fatigue life of components through higher magnitudes of compression and deeper compressive stresses; to form contours beyond what is possible with shot peenforming.
MIC Livermore, CA, developed the technology and provides laser peening services. MICAN is working to secure a future installation in Canada.
Special/Unique Capabilities
MICAN provides controlled shot peening and forming under rigidly controlled conditions on parts with diverse materials, shapes and sizes.
For example, we process aluminum wing skins and structures up to 82 ft. long; titanium door surrounds for composite doors, 300M landing gear and Inconel rotors.
