Government evaluation to date has included Developmental Testing (DT), Operational Assessment (OA) and Operational Testing (OT) under extreme hot climatic conditions at the Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG).
USSOCOM has awarded a Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract and plans on completing OT for a Full Rate Production (FRP) decision as early as July 2004. Funding is in place for the procurement and fielding of up to 200 systems, over three years, starting GFY 04.
Success Stories: ALERT ACTD - The Air Launched Extended Range Transporter (ALERT) is part of an Advanced Concept Technical Demonstrator (ACTD) managed by NAVAIR called Expendable UAV (XUAV). The management of the ALERT portion of the ACTD has been assigned to the Army€™s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems (UAVS) office in Huntsville. Under ALERT, a SnowGoose has been fitted with numerous GFE payloads including: electro optical, infrared, communications relay, metrological etc. A beyond line of sight data link has ben coupled with the ability to update mission plan while in flight and to control payloads via this data link.
