Newfoundland Transshipment Limited (NTL) owns and oversees the operation of a crude oil transshipment terminal at Whiffen
Head, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland - Labrador. The terminal, which was constructed in three phases (1998, 2000 and 2002), handles crude oil produced at the Hibernia and Terra Nova oil fields located offshore Newfoundland. The terminal is equipped with two berths accommodating 35,000-159,000 deadweight ton tankers, six crude oil storage tanks (each with 500,000 barrel working capacity) and an intricate interconnecting pipeline and support structure. NTL also owns two state-of-the-art 5600-horsepower firefighting tug boats, that it uses to escort and dock/undock tankers calling at its terminal. NTL employs safe and environmentally sound operating procedures: providing its employees with a safe work environment; protecting the environment; and offering its customers a secure facility in which to store crude oil.
