TYPICAL PROJECTS/CLIENTS
National Agriculture Imagery Program – US Department of Agriculture
In 2002, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) began acquiring 1-meter aerial imagery to support Farm Services Agency (FSA) functions, including FSA€™s crop compliance program. Since, then, the National Aerial Imagery Program (NAIP) has become the most important, consistent, and reliable aerial imagery procurement program in the US, acquiring base imagery for many federal, state, and county departments. State agencies can leverage the NAIP contract to acquire products that meet their own requirements, hence procuring higher-quality imagery at a lower cost than is normally available to them. North West is one of six companies with multi-year NAIP contracts.
2006-2010 USDA/NAIP North West completed state-wide ADS40/80 coverage of South Dakota, Texas (3 times), Arizona, Indiana, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, California, Washington, and Montana (twice) (1,821,000 mi2).
Ministry of Natural Resources – Ontario (OMNR)
This multi-year OMNR contract had average values of $5 million per 125,000 km2 per season. Work not completed in a given year due to weather and other constraints was carried over into subsequent years, and 2006 and 2007 requirements were combined into one program because the contract was awarded late in the 2006 season. The project involved imagery acquisition, ground control, aerial triangulation, DSM/DEM generation, and orthophoto production, and the deliverables were 0.2 m PAN, 0.4 m multi-spectral orthophoto, DSM/DEM, and stereo imagery for forest inventory.
2006-2010 North West was contracted for approximately 500,000 km2 in north and central Ontario over a 5 year period with a total contract value of $25,000,000.
Woolpert, Inc. – Ohio
Woolpert is a US design, engineering, and geospatial firm providing services in seven core areas: architecture, engineering, enterprise information management, geospatial, planning and design, surveying, and water management.
2006-2009 North West undertook a multi-year program for Woolpert to deliver state-wide 0.3 m or 0.15 m color orthophoto of Ohio counties.
Fugro Horizons, Inc. – Red River, Canada and US
Fugro Horizons provides remote sensing and photogrammetric services for environmental and engineering applications.
2008-2009 North West was retained by Fugro Horizons to collect high-accuracy LiDAR elevation data over the Red River Basin as part of the Red River Basin Mapping Initiative directed by the International Water Institute and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The total area covered in 2008 and 2009 was 41,700 mi2.
Hearst Forest Management Inc. – Ontario
Hearst Forest Management is a privately-held forestry company holding an Ontario forest license that encompasses more than 10,000 km2 of productive Ontario forest on a land base of 1.3 million hectares.
2007 North West was retained by Hearst to provide LiDAR surveys over the Hearst Forest Management Unit as part of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources imagery collection project. This work involved ALS50-II acquisition on 15,700 km2.
International
North West and its senior staff have extensive international experience over the past 30 years. Major aerial acquisition, mapping and geodetic programs have been undertaken in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Kuwait), Africa (Zimbabwe, Nigeria), South America (Venezuela, Peru, Columbia, Argentina) and South East Asia (Australia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia).
