Project Summary
The Woodruff Family YMCA was looking for an attractive, cost-efficient alternative to their existing air-inflated bubble pool enclosure. They specifically wanted a solution that could provide a year-round outdoor feel, without all the maintenance hassles and costs of a bubble.
Solution
• Offset ridge, high sidewalls, and €œsaw tooth€? footprint with 100-foot span that accommodates Z-shaped pool.
• Operable roof and retractable walls open up the building by 50%.
• Maintenance-free aluminum truss structure saves costs and hassles.
Results
• Zero maintenance. Thermally broken aluminum framing system withstands moisture, caustic chemicals and severe weather, and has a significantly longer life cycle.
• Lower operating costs. Operable roof panels and sliding glass walls allow hot, humid air to escape, providing natural cooling and ventilation.
• Increased building usage. Membership has increased well beyond projected numbers, thanks in part to increased visibility and the beautiful new swim area.
Americana Conference Resort - Spa
Project summary
The Americana Conference Resort and Spa in Niagara Falls, Ontario wanted to add an indoor water park to increase occupancy and rates – and turn the hotel into a preferred destination.
Solution
• OpenAire designed, built and installed an enclosure for the hotel€™s new water park.
• Retractable panels open the roof area up to 50% in good weather.
• The structure is 144' long and spans 131' (43.9 m x 40.0 m) with a custom-designed roof that accommodates a 28-foot-high slide platform by creating a dormer over the slide area.
Results
• Increased occupancy and profitability. Despite decreased tourism in the area, occupancy and room rates have gone up significantly.
• Lower operating costs. With the operable roof and glazed construction, lighting, air handling, heating and cooling, and dehumidification costs are minimized.
• Healthier guests and staff. Being able to open up the roof and let out the caustic chemicals means a healthier environment for both work and play.
