Unique Applications: The Israel Pavilion, erected in 1967, was designed to have a textured exterior surface. Protectolite ™ created a special mould that allowed for this pebbled surface. Unlike most other structures on the site, this pavilion retained its structural integrity as well as weatherability, and is still in use today – 40 years later!
The challenge with the Montreal Stock Exchange was to create a €œmodern€? shaped interior panel that could be used for walls, structural display units and ceiling pans. The Protectoliteâ„¢ Inc. solution provided the architect with the ability to clothe the inside of his building with a unique patterning that was also lightweight and durable.
Protectolite â„¢ Inc. worked with Adrian Phillips, an engineer with Aeroceanics Research Corporation, on an important project that would allow natural spawning routes to be incorporated into an area where industry had not only altered the river but also created an area too small for a typical fish ladder installation. Protectolite â„¢ solved the problem by creating a lightweight, anti-corrosion spiral fish ladder that can be easily installed in a small space to allow spawning to continue uninterrupted by industry.
Success Stories: A major municipal transit authority was having a problem with their 60ft articulated buses. The exterior side panels beside the wheel wells on either side of the articulated sections were aluminum. The rest of the bus frame was stainless steel. The side panels were being heavily corroded by road salt and other roadside corrosive materials. Replacement rates for the panels were every nine months! We suggested that the exterior panels be manufactured using Protectoliteâ„¢ Inc€™s compression moulded, Series 1014 anti-corrosion sheet. For esthetic reasons we also incorporated our €œno glass print€? surface so that the side panels matched the rest of the stainless steel exterior. 5 years later the same panels are still in use. Due to the expansion of this municipality, they now require additional buses. They have insisted that Protectoliteâ„¢ provide the same series 1014 panels for the new fleet!
Looking to increase speed, the Canadian bobsledding team for the 1988 Calgary Olympics came to Protectoliteâ„¢. We solved their problem in two ways: we created a composite bobsled shell that cut down on wind resistance by eliminating seams using a one piece construction, plus, using only light weight construction materials we reduced the weight of the sled considerably.
