Quester Tangent Corporation has been active in the international
marine industry since incorporation in 1983. A Canadian company
with a global perspective, Quester Tangent has a rich history of
leading-edge technology development, initially in real-time data
management, the development of hydrographic survey and navigation
products, and high-level systems integration. This broad range of
expertise resulted in the birth of digital acoustic seabed
classification products ? Quester Tangent was the first company
world-wide to market a bottom classification system that extracts
features from a recorded echo. Dedication to and focus on this
technology has given rise to exciting growth of the market, and
the development of an unparallelled suite of digital acoustic
seabed classification products and services with a broad range of
applications.
Acoustic seabed classification is the organisation of the sea
floor and direct subsurface into seabed types or classes based on
the characteristics of an acoustic response. For many years,
marine surveyors have interpreted depth sounder information to
classify the seabed. Since the results were highly dependent upon
human interpretation, they were tedious, inefficient and lacked
repeatability and resolution. It is well known that the seabed
echoes contain much more information than just that necessary for
determining depth. The signal, an acoustic reflection which
includes backscatter, bottom reverberation and spectral returns
has a direct relationship with, and is a function of, the seabed
character. Quester Tangent?s technology uses the information in
the signal to provide accurate, repeatable and unambiguous
classification of the sea floor.
Quester Tangent has successfully applied high-speed digital
technology and advanced digital processing techniques to seabed
classification. The range of products now include real-time
classification of single-beam echosounder data, post-processing
of full-waveform single-beam data, multibeam and sidescan
classification, and will soon encompass classification of
hyperspectral data.
Quester Tangent's technology is used in close to 30 countries,
and with well over 200 surveys completed, is now established as a
standard for scientific data acquisition. The main body of users
includes fisheries habitat mappers, hydrographers, marine
geoscientists and Naval officers.
Quester Tangent is registered to ISO9001 and has achieved CMM
Level2 status.
Additionally, Quester Tangent provides products and technology to
the rail transit industry worldwide. Rapid transit electronic
systems include design or modifications to existing products for
specific rail applications. Quester Tangent's transit projects
include: monitoring and recording onboard systems, emergency
braking systems, and systems to monitor discrete signals and to
control lights, windshield wipers, etc. Customers include rapid
transit systems in Canada (B.C. Transit Skytrain - Vancouver),
Malaysia (PUTRA - Kuala Lumpur) and the United States (NYCT R142
- New York).
Quester Tangent also offers services including systems
integration, installation assistance, training and consulting.
