The RBRC of Canada is a non-profit public service organization
founded by the rechargeable power industry. RBRC was created to
promote the recycling of rechargeable batteries found in many
household products such as power tools, cellular and cordless
phones, and camcorders. RBRC's main purpose is to implement,
manage and consult on rechargeable battery recycling programs.
RBRC is funded through the licensing of the RBRC Battery
Recycling Seal to members of the rechargeable power industry.
Currently, there are more than 300 RBRC Licensees whose
companies represent more than 80% of the rechargeable power
industry. Licensees pay a fee to place the RBRC Battery
Recycling Seal on their rechargeable batteries and/or
rechargeable battery-powered products.
RBRC has developed the Charge Up to Recycle! program in Canada
in coordination with Environment Canada, Natural Resources
Canada, Transport Canada and every provincial and territorial
Ministry of the Environment. The RBRC program has been
recognized by many external groups for its product stewardship
program, including being one of the recipients of the 1999
Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME)
Pollution Prevention Award.
