Success Stories: A tier 1 automotive supplier was experiencing excessive downtime on a relatively new (less than 5 years old) gantry-style pick and place system. The system was very costly and utilized one of the best servo controllers and PLCs on the market. After numerous attempts by the original machine builder to address the problems, the company hired a competing machine builder to reprogram the system. The results were marginally better with machine efficiency at approximately 65%. With production demands rising, the company decided to give RSTech the opportunity to reprogram the system. RSTech programmed the entire system without re-using any of the orignal logic and provided a detailed documentation package and training to the plant Electricians. The results surpassed everyones expectations with machine efficiencies between 96 and 98% in the first 4 months of operation. The only changes made to the system were programming; no hardware was replaced or upgraded. This project demonstrated how important proper control system programming is in the overall performance of a machine.
