SMUBDC was founded in 1989 by Dr. Colin Dodds to help people
realize their entrepreneurial potential. Dr. Dodds, President of
Saint Mary's University (then Dean of Commerce) modeled SMUBDC
on American-based University Business Development Centres
(UBDCs) that use business students to help local entrepreneurs.
Today, SMUBDC is part of a Canada-wide network of UBDCs that
builds bridges between the business community and the academic
community. Saint Mary's University is regarded as the top
business school in Atlantic Canada. In 2002, the university
celebrates its 200th year, demonstrating its ability to stay in
touch with what Atlantic Canadians want in business education.
