Sambrabec Inc., an entirely Québec-owned company, has been involved in the area of energy systems technology since 1986. The company was established in 1984 by Mr. Louis Beaulieu, MBA. It concerns itself with the transfer of equipment technology and production processes, and aims primarily at small or medium-sized firms in developing or recently industrialized countries.
To date, Sambrabec Inc. has successfully penetrated the Brazilian and Caribbean markets. Because energy is the fundamental problem preventing access to technology and to technological development, in 1986 Sambrabec Inc. developed a revolutionary turbine which works on the impetus of all fluids (water, vapour, gas and wind). This is a very successful system which works especially well with wind; the turbine has major competitive advantages over windmills and provides access to individual energy solutions which are economical and environmentally-friendly.
Sambrabec Inc. officially launched its operations in June, 1986. Until December, 1989, the company was mainly devoted to research and development. Sambrabec Inc. invested more than $800,000 over four years to develop this wind turbine system and to turn it into a reliable, efficient product; specifically, these funds covered production costs and the construction of experimental prototypes.
The company undertook a two-year study of its turbine's performance at McGill University's Brace Institute. In addition, the turbine was the object of tests performed at the Canadian National Research Centre (NRCC); its technical and commercial aspects were evaluated by the Centre d'innovation industrielle de Montréal (CIIM), and it was subject to an analysis of its value.
Since February, 1992, the company has had a factory in St-Eustache. In June, 1994, it moved its central office to Ville St-Laurent.
In 1987, Sambrabec Inc. received the Prize for Excellence at the Transtech International Event held in Montréal, which featured products from 22 different countries. In 1991 it received the Grand Prize for Excellence in Innovation for environmental technology, which was awarded by the Fondation Québecoise en environnement and the SNC-Lavalin engineering group.
In 1992, Sambrabec Inc. embarked on a joint venture with Brazilian partners. The consortium, named Braseolica Ltda., proceeded with a technology transfer, and the first sales were in 1993.
