Technology:
Sussex Telecom is completely automated for traffic handling as well as billing. STI operates three fully redundant processor platforms, located in an environmentally conditioned telecommunications facility, based at the Sussex Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
The platforms and associated administrative modules are supplied
by Phoenix Global Networks (now Telemedia Inc.), Symetrics
Corp., ATS, and Dell Computer Corporation; software is based on
Symetrics Corp, PGN, and ATS, and Microsoft, and has been
further enhanced by the Sussex staff. The systems are capable
of carrying in excess of 18,000,000 minutes/month of in/out
traffic, non-blocking.
The platforms consist of dual Pentium III CPUs€™, full redundant
mirrored hard disk drives, redundant power supplies, and state-
of-the-art control boards, all in industrial grade chassis. A
spares inventory of critical components, such as CPU cards and
T1 interface cards, are kept on the premises; emergency power is
provided from the UPS system, which also operates the
telecommunications systems at Sussex, and is capable of
providing 72 hours of uninterrupted power, in the event of a
major power failure. Further unlimited backup is provided by
the emergency generator system.
Access to the system is provided by a combination of local
access lines and dedicated T1 facilities, to and from our
network carriers. The network facilities are monitored around
the clock. Outbound traffic is carried to the network carriers
on additional dedicated T1 trunks.
We also handle traffic coming through gateways located in Canada and other parts of the world.
Our processors are capable of supporting PIN numbers up to 12
digits, two different languages as standard prompts (English,
French,) and numerous custom language prompts, including prompts designed exclusively for your particular cards.
