KFKI Meets the Messaging Needs of Hungary's
Government Infrastructure
The flexibility and security provided by X.400
standards-based messaging have prompted the
Hungarian Prime Minister's Office to install a
messaging system that uses as its foundation
Infonet Software Solutions [ISS] X.400-based
Messenger 400 software.
The new message-handling system forms the heart of
the Hungarian Governmental Information
Infrastructure Development (KIIF), an initiative
designed to meet the basic information needs of
the country's political and administrative system.
Timed for implementation prior to the country's
general election, the new system will link the
Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with key Ministries
and government departments an initial total of
1,500 users.
A well-known Hungarian systems integrator, KFKI
Computer Networks, in partnership with EDS and
ICON, acquired the contract in competition against
offerings from IBM, Digital, Bull, Hewlett-Packard
and ICL. The project includes immediate
implementation of an X.400 PRMD and, in the
future, an X.500-based register supply network.
