The Competency Group (formerly Future Learning Inc.) is a learning solutions company that provides customized, innovative adult learning strategies for a wide range of local, national and international organizations. We specialize in designing and developing competency-based quality adult learning that is delivered in traditional, on-line, and blended learning formats. We are committed to achieving a standard of excellence in adult learning design for all delivery methods. Based in Charlottetown, PEI, The Competency Group is a recognized leader in adult learning, and we have been highlighted as innovators in various trade and government publications. The Competency Group team has conducted competency analyses for many occupations in many sectors to conduct training gap analysis studies, as a framework for curriculum development and for establishing human resource development strategies. The Competency Group uses the DACUM (Developing A Curriculum) approach; a proven, efficient methodology that involves occupational representatives and industry stakeholders. It results in the development of competency documents that are relevant to management and employees, and that can be quickly implemented within the organization.
Strategic planning for human resource development
The Competency Group has developed competency-based human resource development strategies for organizations such as the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Capital Health District (Nova Scotia), the Nova Scotia Department of Health and New Brunswick Health and Wellness.
E-learning strategy development
The Competency Group has developed e-learning implementation strategies for organizations, such as the Calgary Police Service, Human Resources Development Canada, and Iron Ore Company of Canada.
Essential Skills Interviewing and Occupational Profiling
The Competency Group is conducting HRSDC Essential Skills Interviews Research in the Atlantic Region, and developing national Essential Skills Profiles for a variety of occupations. We are experienced and skilled in communicating with individuals from a variety of occupations and sectors.
Learning evaluation
The Competency Group has conducted several evaluation projects such as evaluating the distance delivery portion of the Canadian Land Forces Transition Command Course, a formative evaluation of distance learning for the Dalhousie University Faculty of Health Professions, and an evaluation of the Atlantic Research Network in Culture, Multimedia, Technology, and Cognition Project.
