In the past, HWY evaluation and reporting was limited to the safety officer€™s observations and verbal reporting. Typically, a commercial driver would respond to the safety officer€™s report by denying and arguing the accuracy of the report.
An unmarked vehicle equipped with bi-directional radar and video cam allows for real-time capture of driving habits and incidents. The video capture can be downloaded to a computer and emailed or burnt to a CD.
The driver is then shown the CD and asked for his/her comments. The footage is completely factual and allows the driver to become part of the educational process and take responsibility for driving behavior.
It is an effective and excellent learning technique.
