Established in 1986 as a not-for-profit consortium, TRLabs fast tracks innovation to market by working with its 99 industry, government, and academic partners and clients to invent, modify, and/or prototype market-driven technology.
It has won national and regional awards, including a University-Industry Synergy Award given by the Conference Board of Canada and the Natural Sciences and EngineeringResearch Council of Canada and an Alberta Science - Technology Leadership Award.
TRLabs research activity focuses on three themes: Digital Media; eHealth; and Emerging Sectors. We have labs in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg which employ 36 full time and 100+ part time staff.
In its 25-year existence, TRLabs has trained more than 930 highly skilled university graduates; created 399 technologies adopted for use by companies; and generated 61 active patents (issued or filed). In addition, to these we have also created 11 spin-off companies - started by people who worked at TRLabs.
