Technology:
UMATAC has unique expertise in the technology of thermal pyrolysis with continuous flow, multi-chambered, rotating vessels.
Additional expertise includes the use of the ATP technology to process candidate feedstocks, ranging from oil resource materials (oil sand, oil shale) to organically contaminated soils and wastes.

Sector:
Unique Applications: UMATAC's engineering disciplines of mechanical, process (largely chemical, petroleum and minerals), civil/structural, electrical and instrumentation have all been applied to numerous ATP development projects over the past 20+ years. The major ones are the following ATP Process Plants: • A semi commercial scale shale oil plant in Gladstone, Australia
• A commercial scale shale oil plant in Fushun, China
• 5 tph ATP60 pilot plant in Calgary, Alberta – UMATAC designed and built this plant in 1991/1992. Contract fabrication shops and UMATAC direct hire staff were used to build the plant components to UMATAC€™s design. UMATAC forces erected the plant and then commissioned and operated it. In 1994, UMATAC moved the ATP60 to Montreal for a 4-month demonstration trial for which UMATAC also managed and assisted the Plant operation.
• A 10 tph ATP System plant was designed, built and supplied in 1989/1990 for use by SoilTech ATP Systems Inc. in the United States on EPA Superfund Projects for environmental remediation. Four projects in different locations were completed successfully, during which the ATP technology was extensively examined and monitored by regulatory agencies to ensure regulatory compliance as well as to assess the technology for treatment of hazardous wastes under the EPA€™s SITE program.
• A Used Oil Recycling ATP Plant was supplied in 1996 to a client€™s project in Saskatchewan. The main processing unit is an adaptation of the rotary kiln thermal Processor with throughput capacity of 400 barrels per day of used lubrication oils.
• A complete ATP batch testing unit was supplied in 1995 to a client in Japan for use in determining the treatability of materials there by the ATP System.
Success Stories: • Southern Pacific Petroleum/QERL - Australia: A 250 tph oil shale ATP Processor for the Stuart Energy Project in Australia. Following successful completion of the preliminary work done in Calgary of testing, study and early design, UMATAC engineered and provided the basic design of the Processor. This included process, mechanical and structural aspects. UMATAC also assisted the Owner€™s contractor in the Project implementation phases of detailed engineering, fabrication, field erection and plant start up.
• Fushun Mining Group (FMG), Fushun, China: A 230 tph oil shale ATP Processor for FMG - UMATAC licensed the ATP Technology to FMG and provided the preliminary work in Calgary of testing, study and early design. UMATAC then engineered and provided the basic design of the Processor which is being constructed in a shale oil plant in the 2008 - 2010 period.
