Virtek Vision International Inc. is a subsidiary of Gerber Technology based in Connect, US. Virtek is high technology company that designs, manufactures, markets, and distributes precision laser templating and inspection solutions. Virtek serves customers in the aerospace, prefabricated construction, transportation, gasket and metalworking industries worldwide. The Company€™s solutions enable customers to produce their products faster, better and at a lower cost.
The Company€™s laser inspection systems quickly scan flat parts and translate the images into computer files. Each file can be compared to the part€™s original computer-based drawing to determine whether the item has been manufactured to specification. Alternatively, the file can be used to operate cutting and forming equipment to exactly replicate that specific component (a process known as reverse engineering). This equipment is exact to a high tolerance, and is sold to manufacturers of precision components for the computer, automotive, telecommunications, gasket and related industries.
The Company€™s laser templating systems translate computer-generated files into visible images that aid in the precise layup of parts and components. For the transportation industry, Virtek€™s systems assist in the layup of composite ply materials used to manufacture aircraft components. New aircraft and defence programs are drivers of increased composite use and are fuelling Virtek€™s growth in this market. The industry is increasing its use of composites, as they are lighter and stronger than aluminum components. In the prefabricated construction industry, Virtek€™s templating systems are used to project visible templates that assist in the set up of prefabricated roof trusses and wall and floor panels. These fast and accurate templates substantially reduce manufacturers€™ setup time, thereby dramatically increasing output capacity. The construction industry€™s increasing use of prefabricated building components such as roof trusses (as opposed to manually building them on-site) is driving Virtek€™s growth in this sector. The prefabricated construction industry also includes material processing systems utilizing automated saws, producing a system that precisely moves, laser marks and cuts wall panel components for easier assembly and identification.

Success Stories: Aerospace
Boeing has installed 36 projectors and completely
eliminated the need for large templates for
composite lay up. Set up times have been reduced,
storage space eliminated and engineering changes
have more quickly and accurately been
implemented. "Virtek's systems have been in use
since 1994. Their technology has proven to be
very reliable, accurate and backed up with
excellent and timely support. To date we have
installed 18 laser projection systems, which have
significantly increased our production levels on
composite parts " (Bill R. Heller, Senior
Mechanical Engineer-FAMO Boeing Commercial
Airplane Group)
Prefabricated Components
Typically setup times for the wood truss using
traditional tables in the industry can run from
30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the
complexity of the roof truss. Boozer Lumber in
South Carolina wanted to "push the envelope" and
find the optimum solution to reducing setup
times. They, along with others in the industry,
continually faced shorter and shorter production
runs and increased complexity of the roof trusses
being requested. After 6 months of investigation,
consultation and research, a unique approach was
adopted using slotted assembly tables and Virtek
laser projection systems. This approach led to
set up times that previously had not even been
thought of - 50% and greater. "Time is the
currency of the future, and our investment in the
Virtek laser projection system has paid us
dividends faster and, I project, longer than any
other investment I could have made in my business
today." (Bob Jones, C.E.O. Boozer Lumber, South
Carolina)
