In 1999 XLB Water Solutions became a reality. XLB was the result of an intensive search of the Commercial/Industrial/Institutional markets in Ontario. Many facilities in these markets consume water in their HVAC systems
and in their manufacturing processes. Water Treatment chemicals
are used to prevent corrosion and to minimize heat tansfer surface fouling and while maintining system integrity. Water treatment is a very profitable industry.
XLB advises consumers of water treatment, prepares tenders, trouble shoots plant problems. All recommendations are unbiased and not based upon a desire to secure the water treatment business.
Water quality has been very much in the Cdn. news in the last 20 years. Legionnaires Disease is a concern as is
Coliform bacteria in potable water systems. Both of these
concerns and client requests for assistance have resulted in XLB
Water Solutions becoming an ONTARIO representative for 3 major
Canadian and German manufacturers of Ultra Violet equipment and Ultra pure water filters. We are able to look at both POINT of ENTRY (POE) and POINT of USE (POU) applications.
"GREEN products and treatment methods" for HVAC systems are now heavily marketed. NOT all results are as promoted. Success Stories: 1) Effectively consulted on behalf of the owners for 2 major office (800,000 - 1,000,00 sq.ft.) buildinges recently constructed within the GTA. Monitored on behalf of the owner the activity of the mechanical contractor and the water treatment supplier with respect to the design specification. Many deficiencies where detected and resolved to the owners benefit.
2) Designed and supervised the presentation and issuance of a "Water Treatment Specification" for 2 large Ontario facilities, 1 - for a process plant and the other for a commercial operation. In
both cases the bids were reviewed against a spread sheet that considered several items other than "price/kg."
3) Evaluated a "NON CHEMICAL approach to Water Treatment for four (4) separate Evaporative cooling systems over a period of 3 summers. Observed and reported Corrosion results (MPY) and other irregularities. Our report assisted the client in making a decision on present and future HVAC water treatment program selection.
4) UPGRADED a "Water Treatment Specification" for the HOT WATER HEATING systems for one of ONTARIO'S largest School Boards - located in the GTA.
5) Developed a (Weighted Points System) to assist a Board of Education in determining which Water Treatment Proposal was the best to maintain HVAC system integrity. Using this system the "lowest price tendered" was deemed not to be the best choice.
6) UPGRADED a "Water Treatment Specification" for the EVAPORATIVE COOLING systems for one of ONTARIO'S largest School Boards.
7) Assisted in the design and development of a Chemical Feed System for a Secondary School located in the GTA. This system provides an audible/visual alert when chemical supply is low. It also provides sufficient advance warning to protect the Evaporative cooling loop system over a "long weekend".
8) Discussed current HVAC Water Treatment practices (Chemical and Non Chemical as well as Filtration) with various property managers for a large Canadian property management firm @ one of their annual meetings.
