The Point2 system is a normalized database that is used
primarily to serve web-based clients. The nature of the web-
based interface makes it a flexible multi-user system that can
be accessed and maintained from anywhere in the world through
the Internet. The data that is stored within Point2's database
can be extracted using flexible selection criteria and presented
in numerous layouts that are designed for viewing online, in
printed form, or through a compact disk multimedia
presentation. The following is a brief overview of the major
systems that make up the Point2 Heavy Equipment Exchange.
1. The Point2 System is comprised of five main components: Equipment Data, Condition Data, Manufacturer Data, Equipment
Type
Data, and the Parts system. These five databases each have an
administrative module for maintenance, yet from a client
perspective appear as one.
- The Equipment Database is the master file that contains the
majority of the information stored for each piece of equipment
- The Condition Database is used to keep track of what
conditions
apply to what type of equipment, as well as storing the actual
condition information for each entry in the equipment
database.
- The Equipment Type Database maintains the types of equipment
that are acceptable as well as a cross-reference to the
conditions that apply to each type. Conditions can be specified
and maintained from this system as well.
- The Equipment Manufacturer Database maintains the manufacturer
list that is used when entering data into the equipment database.
- The Parts Database is a recently added feature of the Point2
system that allows for clients to search your dealer parts
inventory and make online requests for information from the
dealer web site
2. The equipment maintenance system provides the interface that
allows the operator to maintain all information pertaining to a
specific piece of equipment, including features, conditions,
general details, and the photo handling facility.
3. The photo handling facility is a custom system for
manipulating photos and attaching them to the data that is
stored
in the equipment file. Photos are resized and stored in a
common
area on the server for later retrieval.
4. The Equipment Search/Display facility provides a method for
internal and external clients to access the contents of the
equipment database using flexible selection criteria. The
results of these queries can be displayed in multiple formats
and
include only the information that the client requires.
5. The Automatic E-mail Response System is a facility that
allows
clients who have searched the database using a specific
selection
criteria to be automatically notified via e-mail when any
equipment is added to the system that matches their search
criteria. This system allows the subscribing client to
un-subscribe at any time.
6. The Offline Viewer / CD Creation Utility provides a method
for
transferring the data contained in the system to a CD that can
display the equipment information in a very professional manner
(with full details and photos), using the contact information of
any salesperson in the office. This is done by asking the
viewing client to provide a User ID to enter, this user ID is
used by the system to select the appropriate contact information
to display on the equipment listings and printouts.
7. Dealer grouping utility allows multiple dealers to share data
and promote each others used products. Through grouping of
dealers representing a common manufacturer the creation of a
custom manufacturer CD is possible.
