The Communication Research Centre is the Canadian government's
primary laboratory for advanced communications R - D, located west
of Ottawa in the hi-tech hotbed known as Silicon Valley North.
Its main research areas include satellite communications, radio
science, terrestrial wireless, broadband network and broadcast
technologies. With almost 200 engineers, scientists and
technicians, CRC engages in long-term pre-competitive research
that is frequently licensed to industry for further development.
CRC's tradition of technology transfer has led to the creation of
more than 60 spin-off companies.
CRC also operates an Innovation Centre, a technology incubator
for high-tech startups, to keep Canada at the forefront of
innovation. CRC's major clients include National Defence, the
Canadian Space Agency, Industry Canada and numerous partners in
academia and private industry. CRC was officially established in
1969, but its roots can be traced back to the late 1940's.
