August 2006 : TIFCO in the news, Toronto Star had a really nice and warm interview with Fernando Massalin, Tifco€™s President, at our Head office in Etobicoke.
€œA Mississauga company imports more than 800 products from Latin America and gets them into grocery stores across Greater Toronto€?
Â…. €œThis importer of Latin American foods has been pumping up its line with some of its own Canadian-made goods, like these tortillas.
The green floor of the industrial wing in Tifco's Mississauga headquarters runs without variation through every room. But here in the bakery it's slippery, as if coated in oil. But it's not oil. The bakery is full of corn flour particles that settle invisibly on the floor. After a few minutes, the dust gathers in your eyelashes and your lips taste like corn.€?
Â… €œTifco's Mississauga headquarters, the last couple of years have been devoted to the products the company has developed under its own brand: corn tortillas, bottled juices, nachos, spices, grains, flours and beans.
Cheese is Massalin's next big challenge. He has created eight Latin American cheeses under the Tifco brand, three of which have gone to market, with the rest still in development. Massalin is a proud man. He glows as he talks about Tifco's government-granted milk quota, and the cheese plant he hopes to build one day.€?
