Success Stories: Machine Vision Software
Having recognized that software is the key to
effective and reliable machine vision systems,
Xiris has assembled a team of highly capable
programmers. Using state-of-the-art tools they
are able to produce innovative solutions to the
customer's problems. Our application engineers
will design systems with custom configured
operator interfaces using advanced graphical user
interfaces (GUI). By taking this approach Xiris
can build systems that can take advantage of
third party application programs on the market
today. As operating systems advance and computer
power increases, Xiris will maintain its
leadership by developing application software
that will grow to provide greater functionality.
Xiris has developed a suite of tools to meet most
machine vision needs.
Since its founding in 1989, Xiris has completed
numerous successful automation projects that use
machine vision spanning the range from complex
gauging to simple presence/absence.
Xiris has designed and assembled Machine Vision
Systems that meet the following needs: Defect detection and assembly verification
High precision measurement and gauging
Vision guided motion
High speed automated manufacturing
Color image processing
Pattern recognition
Label verification
Optical character recognition (OCR)
Part sorting
Imaging Solutions - Semiconductor Wafer
Application
To inspect and locate dies for a die bonding
operation.
Description
A manufacturer of precision displays required to
inspect and locate Light Emiting Diodes (LEDs) in
order to pick and place them into a grid with a
level of precision of +/- 2.5 m (+/- 0.0001").
The application had to pick and place components
at a rate of 70 per minute.
Solution
Motion control was integrated into the vision
application to drive an XY stage carrying the
LEDs on a mylar plate. The stage would index a
new set of LEDs into the field of view for
processing. A blob tool was used to obtain the
centroid of each LED and inspect for cracks,
chips or voids inside each chip. Based on the
centroid information, a series of caliper tools
were placed across the edges to accurately find
the edge and its slope of each part. This
information was used to offset the pick and place
device to align the component for placement.
