Success Stories: Sample of past assignments and projects led by Phil Green, Greenbridge Management Inc.
A $200 million forest products company needed a new system to manage its supply chain to reduce fibre acquisition costs and reduce its inventory. A series of facilitated workshops produced a design for a new supply chain management systems and a set of user requirements for supporting software. The company has now reduced inventory by 75% and was able to weed out vendors who were unable to deliver appropriate software.
A $300 million frozen food company was contemplating the building of a second warehouse. I facilitated a team through a detailed analysis of their sales forecasting, sales, customer order, production planning, production and delivery systems. The team identified significant bottlenecks and waste. By correcting these problems they avoided the building of the second warehouse.
A $20 million building products company needed a quality management and continuous improvement system. Over a two year period I helped them implement a tailor made system that covered manufacturing, sales and planning. By the end of the period, sales were more than double and the business was sold by the owners for a substantial gain.
A $1 billion forest products company was seeking a leadership position in environmental management. Over a ten-year period, I helped them in numerous initiatives in their North American facilities, including such things as developing a risk management process; reviewing the corporate environmental, health and safety audit program; determining the user requirements for a health and safety incident database now used over the Internet by their global operations; designing, planning and assisting in the implementation of environmental management systems at pulp and paper mills; designing and implementing sustainable forestry systems.
Two shiploads of newsprint from a large newsprint mill belonging to a $3 billion pulp and paper company was rejected by their South American customer. The technical director, on site at the customer, asked me to analyse data from ten thousand rolls of newsprint to determine the cause of the quality problem. The statistical analysis proved conclusively that the defects were caused by the customer€™s handling system. This saved $2 million in newsprint and restored the relationship with the customer.
A $500 million custom bakery in the US was implementing a continuous improvement system at their four plants. I provided statistical training and implementation advice to their senior management. Within the first year of implementation, savings were over $10 million.
Over a ten-year period the Canadian operations of a global food manufacturing company were implementing a continuous improvement system. I helped them throughout this process, from training and on-site consulting on specific projects and issues, to advising senior management on the overall direction of the continuous improvement system. Many projects throughout the operations collectively saved millions of dollars and the organization was able to continue to compete effectively in the free trade era.
An electrical local distribution company wanted an integrated risk management system to continually reduce the risks faced by their business, including financial, safety, environmental risks and system reliability. Over a two year period I helped them implement the system, Managers now identify, measure and control risks and use a variety of information tools to track their progress in reducing risk.
Designed a sampling scheme to reduce the sampling of incoming logging trucks done by wood products mill. Developed a software specification based on the sampling scheme which was used by the client to select vendors. The result is 50% less effort to scale the logging trucks and reduced handling of logs on company premises.
A major Canadian pulp and newsprint mill wanted to implement statistical process control to reduce variation in newsprint quality and increase mill productivity. After two years, the mill productivity was greatly increased, the frequency of web breaks on the paper machine was down by 80%, and pulp quality was at an all time high.
A major Canadian railroad wanted to introduce its new environmental policy to 20,000 employees and motivate them to place continuous improvement of environmental protection at the same priority as safety and keeping the trains running on time. I developed a customised training package with lively case studies that Greenbridge Management Inc. consultants delivered across the nation in both official languages. The approach helped the railroad get its message across and launch their new poli
