Joe Nimens has a long history of committing contractor fraud, going back at least to 2004. A corporate search shows that he dissolved his company in 2006, purportedly to avoid tax arrears and a small claims judgment against him, yet he continues to promote his business in online forums. I just received a default judgment for $13,500, for work not completed in 2009, and I know of at least two other plaintiffs whom he owes $16,000 and $40,000. He has defrauded the general contractor for a large car dealership, and even a former premier of Ontario. He talks a good game, knows his field of installing helical piers, promises to do the work, requests a large materials deposit, then fails to show up, delivers nothing but excuses, evades phone calls, then ends all contact. Another plaintiff reported that when he sent a crew, they told the client they hadn't been paid by him, and they proceeded to put a lien on the project and collect from the general contractor. He has been charged with fraud seven or eight times in the North Bay area, according to the detective constable who has worked on his case. He has been cited for contempt of court, for failure to appear. He has been chased down by Revenue Canada for tax evasion, and he owes the agency $175,000. His house is mortgaged for $250,000. A poster on the ContractorTalk forum wrote: RE: Helical Piers. "Do not deal with jnimens, he's a crook. Google him: Joe Nimens. Don't go near this guy. He makes his living by ripping people off, and the authorities and the courts have yet to stop him."
